Gunvor "Swede" Yvonne Reutter, 90, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at River Pointe Healthcare. She was born on March 24, 1931, in Gothenburg, Sweden, to the late John and Kerstin (Holmgren) Eliasson.
She shared her birthday with her youngest daughter and granddaughter. As a young woman she worked as a stewardess on a passenger cruise ship, going all around the world. She came to America in 1959, became a citizen in 1970. She worked various jobs as a seamstress, bartender, cook and house cleaner. She was an avid bingo player, playing as many as 48 cards at a time. She enjoyed NASCAR and playing slot machines at Casino Aztar. She and her late husband enjoyed their rivercamp and fishing from their boat. Gunvor was the baby of four children. She told stories of borrowing her sister, Ingrid’s clothes, shoes and jewelry and how Ingrid would get so mad at her. Ingrid obviously forgave Gunvor, because they were very close, keeping in touch until Ingrid’s death.
She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Dihne of Varberg, Sweden; Yvette Wassmer (Wendell Wayne) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Henrik Dihne, Anna Dihne, Wesley Rickert, Brittany (Jordan) Hernandez, Danielle (Anthony) Emmons, Dillon (Olivia) Wassmer, William Joseph Wassmer, and Breanna Wassmer; great-grandchildren, Theodore Dihne, Agnes Dihne, Noah Dihne, Sophia Woodrome, Warren Woodrome, Abram Emmons, Paisley Wassmer, Elliana Hernandez, and Gwendolyn Emmons; and many nieces and nephews.
Gunvor was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Reutter in 2003.
The family would like to thank River Pointe Health Campus and Adaptive Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved ones in her final days. Also, Shauntrece Deters, for the monthly home visits and all her assistance.
No services will be held. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Alexander Memorial Park.
