Helen Lucille Elzer

Helen Lucille Bateman Elzer, 93, passed away on August 20, 2026. She was born April 27, 1933, in Boonville, Indiana, to Opal Williams Bateman and Frank Henry Bateman. Helen was raised in Boonville and remained proud of her roots and the community that helped shape her life.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother who treasured her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Elzer, and her son, David Elzer.

She was formerly an employee of AMAX Coal Company. Helen was an active member of Methodist Temple Church and Gamma Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority where she valued friendship, service, and fellowship. She enjoyed sewing and teaching others how to sew. Helen spent her free time playing bridge and spending time with friends and loved ones.

In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings: Lois Frances (Gorrell), Nera (Schultze), Wilma Grace (Combs), Edith (Bullock), and Ruth Davis (Stamps).

Helen is survived by her son, Alan and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Elzer; her grandchildren, Chantel Elzer, Elizabeth Elzer (Welin), and Veronica Elzer (Bloyed); great grandchildren, and many great great grandchildren; and her siblings, Martha Mary Heitkamp and Charles Denton Bateman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Methodist Temple, 2109 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN officiated by Pastor Randy Moore. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Temple in Evansville or to the Main Street United Methodist Church in Boonville.
