Helene was an exceptional woman.
After graduating from Bosse High School in 1953, she worked in the Servel typing pool. The following year she and Billy White were married, and their family quickly grew to include 5 children.
Helene was someone who never stood still.
She cooked for her family every day, often using vegetables fresh from the family garden or ones she had canned from the summer harvest. One of her specialties was homemade jelly. Mostly fruit jelly but also from violets. Yes, violets!
An accomplished seamstress, Helene sewed clothing for the entire family. She also found the time to be a room mother for all her kids, a troop leader for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and 4-H and coached girls little league.
Helene co-founded the Aquarium Club of Evansville in 1964 and later earned certification as a Master Gardener. She was an avid reader of science fiction and Agatha Christie mysteries. When the children were grown, Helene worked for many years in the Petite department at Lazarus, then Macys and after retiring, became a multi-award-winning gourd artist.
Helene was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alice Borman; her brother, Butch Borman; and her husband of 53 years, Billy White.
She is survived by her children Sherry, Laurie, Michael, Judy, and Andy; her grandchildren Amy (Ray), William, Sara (Russell), Mary, and Hali (Jared) and great-grandchildren Wren and Caleb.
The phrase “she never met a stranger” totally described Helene. Her beautiful smile and sweet nature won over everyone she met. She was an amazing Mom and friend and she will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on April 22, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel, 2215 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
