She worked hard her entire life, as a housekeeper in her youth, for Pete Fisher, and at Gus Doerner Sports until she retired. She sewed the lettering on many of the jerseys for the sports teams in the Tri-State area. Irene spent many years with her best friend, Christa Kunze. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Christa cared for her until she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. Irene lived with them for several years until she went to The Good Samaritan. She was a faithful servant of Jehovah God and spent many hours in her Christian ministry. She loved children, although she never had any of her own. She had a special bond with Christa’s granddaughter, Rachel Kunze. Rachel was with her when she passed.
Irene was preceded in death by brothers, Carl & Clarence Hirschelman; sister, Nilda; and her parents.
She is survived by her sisters, Marie, Margaret and Valada; and cousin, Elmer Hirschelman.
Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2012 East Maxwell Avenue, officiated by Paul Saalweachter.
The family would like to thank everyone at The Good Samaritan Home for their kindness and care of Irene the past few years.
