I am hearbroken. When I first came to work in surgery, you became a fast friend. We loved to share good-natured jabs back and forth teasing each other and making each other laugh. He was a wonderful man and I loved him dearly. Rarely do we make friends in this life that we both love and have the highest respect for. Jimmy Lee was one of them. I will never forget you Jimmy Lee or the fact that when I used sign language to call you a "wise doctor" I was also teasingly calling you an "old goat". You were so much fun. Such a good doctor. And you will be missed. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I met Jim 5 years ago through my good friend Tom Cherry.  He was one of those guys that the first time you met him, you knew you were going to love him.  He had such a good personality and disposition.  I always looked forward to seeing him in the summer months.  We would take jet ski trips to his favorite spot, Buffalo Creek Grill, and eat lunch.  I will miss him so much, but I will always be thankful that I got to know him and be his friend.  I will always love him and miss him.  God bless you!

  I had the pleasure of meeting Jim through Tom Cherry. I installed the upstairs HVAC at your lake house here in Lexington, SC. Jim was such a kindhearted man..so nice and willing to help anyone. Dr. Hobgood was always a caring person with a big smile. I knew him many years ago at Deaconess hospital and he helped at the birth of my children in 1967&1972. He will be missed.

I remember the day they took that picture at Deaconess.  He was too busy to take off his mask, so he just turned it around! I had the privilege of working with Dr. Hobgood for 30 years off and on.  He taught me so much, not only about anesthesia, but about how to live a happy life. He loved his family and his profession. And those of us lucky enough to work with him, loved him back. I knew him only by going to the high school reunions of the Monticello class of 1950 for many years.  My husband Bill Erwin(who passed away May 5,2012 always respected and admired him.  My sympathies are extended to his wife and family.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Hobgood for a number of years at the St. Charles Surgical Pavilion. He was always smiling, kind and amused many of us with his witty sense of humor. He will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family.

Becky I was so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. May you take comfort in knowing he is at peace and with our Lord. However I know that doesn't reduce your heart's aching. I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Hobgood's death. I have had encounters with him as a anesthesiology, for several surgies and through the pain clinic. He was such a gentle person, regardless which role he was filling.

The last time I saw Dr. Hobgood he was out shopping with his wife and we talked for a few minutes, I was able to get to know him at Deaconess  and he always had  a smile and something funny to talk about, he would always say "is that right". Dr. Hobgood was one of my instructors in Respiratory Care school many years ago. He was an exceptional teacher and physician but above all a very fine man. Dr. Hobgood was such a sweet and caring man.  I had the honor of working with him for six years at the Deaconess Pain Clinic.  No matter what, he always had something funny to say and a smile on his face.  He really cared about his patients and his staff. He will truly be missed.

I have worked with Dr. Hobgood for the past 16 years.  What a wonderful, kind, entertaining person!  As part of the Valley Surgery Center family,  he was not only our doctor, but also our friend.  As the greatest compliment, I say that his shoes can never be filled.  His passion for work was inspiring.  Our lives are forever changed.  At the end of every surgery day, he would say "Good Day".  So to Dr. Hobgood I say, "Good Day" ..."Good Life!"  You will always be in my heart.

I was one of five interns that started at Saint Marys Hospital in 1961. Jim was one of the youngest members on the staff and a good friend to all we young doctors.
