James “Jake” Jacobs, 86, of Evansville, IN passed away on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Newburgh Health Care. Jake was born on July 7, 1936 in Lawrenceville, IL to the late Harold Dale and Dorothy Magdeline (Lockhart) Jacobs.
Jake graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School and attended Vincennes University and Ambassador Institute of Travel. He served in the United States Marine Corps and took part in the 2018 Honor Flight. He retired from SBC after 38 years. Jake was a member of Bell Pioneers, Bell Conservation Club, Kentucky Colonels, National Arbor Foundation and Board of Trustees, Audubon Society and American Baptist East Church. He was active in missionary work with his church. Jake enjoyed bird watching, lawn and gardening and hunting squirrels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jacquelyn Jacobs and brother Harold Jacobs.
Jake is survived by his children, Jeffrey Jacobs (Jeanne), Julie Woolston (David), Jon Jacobs (Stacey) and Jennifer “Ginger” Norris (Bridget); grandchildren, James Woolston (Camille), Jamie Hoffman (Kyle), Morgan Jacobs (Erin), Molly Baker (Trinity), Joshua Jacobs (Anna), Cassidy Akin (Aaron) and Ally Wood (Kyle); nine great grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Sharon Jacobs, Erma Osterhage and Rita Kehl.
The family would like to thank his caregivers at Newburgh Health Care, his granddaughter-in-law, Anna Jacobs and his nurses, Mary Samples Jones and Vicki Buckwinkle along with Amy Barnes at Heritage Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., with Rev. Bill Altman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military honors. Friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
