Eddie attended Central High School. Eddie loved cars and began working in the auto industry at a young age. He was well known for his strong work ethic, and eventually became an owner of Midas Muffler on St Joe Avenue, which he operated for 23 years. After retirement, Eddie worked part-time at Hertz Rental Company for 14 years.
He loved music and was a superb pedal steel guitar player, performing in a number of local bands throughout his life. He loved being outside, working in his yard, and living an active life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Eddie was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Smith and a brother, Ronnie Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Sandra; daughters, Debbie (Pat) Edwards of Evansville, Laurie (Parrish) Kinney of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Cori (Todd) Zachritz of Evansville; great granddaughters, Zoe and Lila Zachritz; brothers, Donald Smith, Darrel (Faye) Smith and Connie Smith; sisters, Wanda (Kenny) Powell and Gwendolyn (Linda) Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor Andy Payton, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home
