OBITUARY

Jane E Drebus

February 25, 1949October 5, 2021

Jane E. Drebus, 72, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. She died from congestive heart failure at her home, surrounded by her immediate family and under home hospice care.

Jane was born on February 25, 1949 to the late E. Donald and Mary Jane Elliott in Chicago, Illinois. She moved with her family to Evansville at the age of 3. She attended Harper Elementary and graduated from Harrison High School in 1967. She earned a degree in English Literature from Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut in 1971. In 1972 she married the love of her life, Bill Drebus. They recently celebrated 49 years of marriage. In 1973 Jane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Nevertheless, she and Bill raised three children who they loved dearly.

Jane was a self-employed tutor and flute teacher. She loved music and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She was a devout Christian and a member of Methodist Temple United Methodist Church. She was active in several Bible studies over the years.

Jane was extremely generous, caring, and kind to all she met. She had a wonderful sense of humor, an appreciation of words and reading, and especially loved teaching children to read. In fact, her children and grandchildren were the primary focus of her attention and joy. Her role as devoted wife and mother was central within the family and her loss is felt deeply by those closest to her.

Jane is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Drebus; sons, David Drebus (Kate Hartman) and Robert Drebus; daughter, Donna Jane Oldham (Davis); grandchildren, Will and Thomas Oldham; brother, Don Elliott (Gail); and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Methodist Temple Church with Pastor Andy Payton officiating. Entombment will follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit on Sunday October 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel and from 10:00 a.m. Monday until service time at the church.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of the medical professionals who lovingly cared for Jane over the years, with special thanks to the Deaconess Home Hospice staff.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 375 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, 08034, and to Methodist Temple Endowment Fund, 2109 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana, 47714.

Bill and Family,
I’m so sorry to hear about Jane’s passing. We went to Harper School and Harrison High School together. While in Evansville for our 50th High School Reunion, I was fortunate to have met Jane for lunch along with a group of our Harper School classmates. We had a great time catching up and sharing our life stories. Jane was a smart, vibrant woman. I will miss her big smile and her laugh.
With deepest sympathy,
Sara Herrmann Gillespie

My favorite memory: Sitting in the Drebus family living room surrounded by Donna's family (grandma was there) as Donna played a recital piece. A lovely afternoon shared with friends and family and one always smiling, proud, devoted mother! Peace to your family Bill. Jane was a remarkable woman!
