Jean Alice Walling

Jean A. Walling, 94, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Linda E. White Hospice House. She was born February 25, 1923, in Vanderburgh County, to the late Walter A. and Martha (Niehaus) Stinson.

She graduated from F.J. Reitz High School then earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Evansville College in 1942. She then went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Indiana State in 1969. For over 25 years, Jean worked for the EVSC, teaching at Culver, Fulton, Tekoppel and Evans schools. She was a member of General Thomas Posey Chapter of DAR, Tri-State Genealogical Society and the Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George Walling; and sisters, Martha Stinson and Mildred Yokel.

She is survived by her sons, Donald (Nancy) Walling of Parkersburg, WV and James (Brenda) Walling of Evansville, IN; daughter, Alice (Stephen) Shonk of Ashmore, IL; grandchildren, Robert and Elizabeth; step-grandchildren, Kelly and Amie; eight step-great grandchildren; and seven step-great, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 15, 2018, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance. Friends may visit Sunday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel.
