Joan Morris (Lawson, Mackey) passed away peacefully on Monday May 11, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown in Evansville, IN due to complications of Covid 19, she was 92. Joan was born in Evansville IN on Dec 2, 1927 to Carl Lawson and Lorraine (Williams) Lawson. She graduated from Central High School in 1945.
Joan worked at Bristol Myers (Mead Johnson) for 25 years before retiring in 1992. She loved her job and all the friends she made there.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Robert Lawson, Pat Lawson Meier, Martha Lawson and Walter Lawson.
Joan is survived by her husband of 37 years, Ted Morris as well as 4 children with her former husband Elbert Mackey, who also preceded her in death. Pamela Barnes (Bruce), Darryl Mackey, Sandra Dicks, and Kristi Garrett (Greg). She was lucky to have a bonus daughter Teresa Grisham (Glenn) from her husband Ted Morris. Joan has 4 grandchildren Chad Schoening (Alicia), Joni Jones (Nic), Matt Grisham (Lindsay) and Jami Eaton. She also has 4 great grandchildren Xavier Nienaber, Jakobi & Theo Jones and Jensen Grisham. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.
Joan loved life. She loved dancing, singing, playing games, boating and working the crossword puzzle every day. She and Ted also enjoyed socializing at Casino Aztar, and would occasionally win a buck or two on the slots.
She had a laugh that she inherited from her mother that was deep and true whenever she got “tickled” by something funny. She passed that trait on to her children as well.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at both Hamilton Pointe and Deaconess Midtown. They truly are angels.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Alexander East Chapel. Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
