JoAnn Schmidt, 69, born May 2, 1947, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, just short of her 70th birthday, at Charlier Hospice in Evansville holding hands and surrounded in love by her niece, Catie, and sister, Linda.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jr.; and parents, Clyde and Leona Taylor.
JoAnn’s main jobs had been at Welborn Hospital in dietary and housekeeping, becoming a PSA before she was transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center when Welborn closed. JoAnn was one of the most wonderful people you could ever know. She never met a stranger and would enjoy days with her friends out shopping and running around. JoAnn always loved her cats, Susie, Sasha, and Punkin. JoAnn spent the last two and half years residing at Signature Healthcare after strokes took her ability to live alone. Her life at Signature was a happy life with friends and staff that loved her as much as she loved them. She had a quirky personality develop after her strokes. At Signature, she enjoyed all the activities, yum yum club, and lovely nails. JoAnn enjoyed most of all, taking silly pictures and acting goofy with her niece, Catie, and shared many smooches between them.
JoAnn is survived by her niece, Catie Taylor; and little sis, Linda Taylor, both of Evansville; brother, Clyde Taylor, Jr.; sister-in-law, Judy; Clyde and Judy’s sons and grandson, Mark, Steven, and Mark Allen, all of Nashville, TN; children, Robert Schmidt, Rebecca Dunville, and Norman Schmidt, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Heaven has gained an angel and we have lost our beloved JoAnn. She will be missed forever.
The family would like to thank, with grateful hearts, Deaconess Neuro ICU and Charlier Hospice for the kind and gentle care taken of JoAnn. They allowed her dignity and gave her family solace during this difficult time.
