John Edward Basham

John Edward Basham, 71, of Elberfeld, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born May 23, 1941 in Lewisport, KY to the late Leona Mattingly Basham Blake and George Leslie Basham, Sr.

John worked at Whirlpool for 13 years and was the owner of Johnny’s Landscaping.

He was a member of Local 808 and a lifetime member of Riverbend Association. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Jean Basham; children, Joseph Edward Basham, Harold Gene Basham (Cheryl), and Nathan Ray Basham (Nickolas Smith); six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Lou Smiley, Martha Faye James, Wanda Woods, and Clyde Basham.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 17, 2012 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Scott Winiger with entombment at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evansville Rescue Mission’s Camp Reveal, 1040 E. Boonville New Harmony Rd, Evansville, IN 47725.

Shocked to hear about Johnny. Al has not been working so we did not find out until Monday afternoon. We are very sad. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were so shocked to see that Johnny had passed away. I just saw him at the bank. We always enjoyed him when he came to the farm, and will truly miss that for sure..But now he is with Huck :)Take Care are in our thoughts and prayers..

We are saddened by the passing of such a fine man and great neighbor. If you ever needed help, all you had to do was ask and he was there. We feel honored to have known him all these years and to be able to call him friend. We send our prayers to Carolyn and family.
