John Martin Koch II, age 70, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1954, in Evansville, Indiana to the late Elmer Lee Koch and Patricia Ann (Kough) Koch.
John was a man of deep kindness, quiet strength, and a big heart. He really, really, really loved camping, mowing, and above all, his wife. His sense of humor was ever-present; he loved telling jokes and making others smile. He enjoyed disc golf, playing domino trains, going on silent retreats, working on jigsaw puzzles, and woodworking. He was also a dedicated University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, a reader of James Patterson novels, and a lover of classic rock, country, and big band music, especially the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He even dabbled in winemaking and was always learning something new.
A 1973 graduate of Reitz High School, John retired from General Electric/Sabic, where he was known for his exceptional work ethic, he never missed a day and was never late. Throughout his life, he worked as a welder, handyman, and machine operator. From 1979 to 1982, he proudly served as a Reserve Officer for Posey County and was a recent member of the Fraternal Order of Police. After his retirement he worked part-time at Menards.
John’s generosity knew no bounds. He and his wife, Cecilia opened their home to Evansville Otters baseball players over the years. He also extended a friendship to a needy couple that helped him mow to provide them with some income.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Cecilia Ann (Buchanan) Koch; his children, LeAndra (Jeffrey) Owens and Aaron (Amanda) Koch; grandchildren Brandon Koch, Jackson Owens, Britton Owens, Logan Hockenberry, and Jacob Hockenberry; siblings Rebecca DeCorrevont and Floyd (Theresa) Koch; several cousins, nieces and nephews; extended family and many cherished friends.
