A loving father and a friend to many, he was known to hold court wherever he went, including in his final years at Parkview Care Center. John was beloved for both his wit and his ability to make the most of the moment – and help others do the same.
Born November 10, 1937, John graduated from Reitz High School in 1955 and lived his entire life in Evansville, Indiana, with the exception of the three years he spent in Europe with the Army after high school. He attended Indiana State University-Evansville (now USI) on the GI bill, graduating in 1971 with the inaugural graduating class and earning a degree in Business Administration. He retired in 1992 from a career as an auditor for the state of Indiana.
John enjoyed many leisure pursuits. Aside from his responsibilities as president of his son’s youth baseball association, he was a member of Evansville Masonic Lodge #64, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine Oriental Band member, a member of AMVETS post 84, Hilltop Grove and a lifelong member of the River Bend Association where he served in many leadership roles including president. He was also known as an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and for being a very competitive Clabber player.
John is survived by his children, Julie (Bob Reibach) and John (Laurie), and grandchildren Emily, Samuel and Jillian Marshall, step-granddaughters Lori Reibach, Ashleigh Reibach Huggett (Rich) and great grandsons Afton Reibach Huggett and Ezra Reibach Huggett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and John “Jack” Marshall, and sisters Dorothy Jeanne Alexander (George) and Jacqueline Sue Marshall.
The family extends its immense gratitude to the many caregivers and staff (and fans of John’s) at Parkview Care Center and to the Heritage Hospice caregivers.
