

He was a 1947 graduate of Bosse High School, a 1951 graduate of Franklin College and received his Masters from Indiana University. He retired from EVSC after 38 years, spending most of those years at Fairlawn School, but spent two years at Hebron Elementary. John served as a counselor and coach as well as a teacher. He taught two years in Allendale, IL prior to moving to Evansville in 1957.
John was a Corporal in the Army, serving in a hospital in Kyoto, Japan for 15 months as a rehabilitation specialist. He was a member of VFW Post 1114, American Legion Kapperman Post, Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club, Evansville Retired Teachers Association and was a founding member of the Huddleback Club. John was a member of Methodist Temple, where he was an usher and a member of the SAM group.
He was an avid athletic official, officiating high school basketball and football games. He was also an avid golfer and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving and patient husband, father and grandfather.
John was preceded in death by his son, Thomas McGinness.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah “Sally” McGinness; sons, Steve (Donna) and Tim (Tana) McGinness; and grandchildren, Tyler, Jamie, Tiana and Zachary.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Beutler, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
