

John Edward West, known to most of us as John and better known as Ed to his siblings and their families, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 14, 2011. John was born Jan 22, 1924 in Henderson County Ky. and lived the majority of his adult life in Evansville. He was a dearly loved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
John was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church for 51 years, where he served in various capacities and had many wonderful friends and treasured memories. John always displayed a servant’s heart as he diligently sought to follow and apply the teachings of Jesus Christ to his own life.
He retired from Bristol-Meyers after being employed there 1957 -1989. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII, completing over two years of combat duty in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Edith (Tummins); his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
John is survived by sons: David(Valerie), Ron (Jennifer), and Thomas (Amy); grandsons: Tim (Jeanne) and Mark; sisters: Frances Clary and Virble Brann; brothers: Eugene and William; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.
John’s family wishes to express a special thanks to Vicki Kell and Tony and Hazel Vohjesus, who showed exemplary love and care for John during his time of need.
Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at New Bethel Baptist Church, 4301 Broadway Avenue, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel.
