Joseph Baylor

Joseph Baylor, M.D. passed away on February 7, 2018. He was born in Milltown, Indiana on May 29, 1935. He moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1936 and attended school there from kindergarten through medical school, never missing a day of class after kindergarten. He earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville and was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force for 5 ½ years. He completed his medical residency at the University of California at San Diego and interned at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He then practiced OB/GYN for 45 years in California, Texas and Indiana, retiring in 2006 after delivering approximately 6,000 bundles of joy.

Joseph married his wife, Cherie Jett, on December 12, 1970. Besides his wife, he is survived by son Jeff Baylor (Cynthia) of Troy, Texas; daughter Amy Brook (Chris) of Arlington, Texas; daughter-in-law Donna Baylor of Leander, Texas; sister-in-law Barbara Clark (Larry) of San Diego, California; Godson Scott Levin of San Diego, California; sister Betty Fielden of Louisville, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ruth Baylor, sister Phyllis McBride, and son Steve.

Joseph was an active member of Methodist Temple and enjoyed golfing, reading, working puzzles, going to movies, and lunching with the guys. While in Texas he was very active in United Way and Lions Club, where he held various offices, including President, and was honored as Lion of the Year in 1990.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Payton. Friends may visit from 12:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
