

He was a member of River Bend Association.
Jay retired after 38 years from the Evansville Fire Department. He served as the District Chief for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret (Diamond) Gatewood; and sister, Mary Harris.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris (Wilhite) Gatewood; daughter, Debbie Wilson (Bruce); sons, Danny (Kim), Brian (Lee Anne); grandson, Justin; granddaughters, Megan, Jessica, Brianna, Sammi Jo, and Amanda; great grandsons, Gage Decker and Jordan all of Evansville; brother, James (Bud) Gatewood (Ann); sisters, Margie Reisinger, Pearl Cummings, Jo Ann Kelley, Judy Reuter (Ed), Charlene McCallister, Jan Kinney (Art), sister-in-law, Betty Paul; brothers-in-law, Gary, Charles, & Floyd Wilhite and many nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Ron Kissel, with burial at Locust Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel.
