She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Josephine was very involved with the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and was a recipient of the Brute Award. She retired from Mater Dei Cafeteria. Josephine touched the lives of all she met, and was known as “Mom” to many more than just her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Alvey; son, Anthony; brother, Sylvester; sister, Veronica; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Jeremy Elpers; and her parents.
Josephine is survived by her children, Leo J. Alvey (Marian), Diane M. Alvey, Philip Alvey, Jr. (Dianna), Daniel R. Alvey (Jan), Michael P. Alvey (Jane), Linda J. Carr (Michael), and Dr. Terence A. Alvey (Jean); 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; brothers, Jacob and Joseph Seibert; sister, Lorena Harms; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2701 W. Franklin St., Evansville, IN 47712, officiated by Fr. Anthony, Deacon Joe Seibert, Deacon David Seibert and Deacon Mike Seibert, with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 6:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2018, at Ryves Hall in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1600 Glendale Ave., Evansville, IN 47712. Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ryves Hall and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at Sacred Heart.
