Joyce “Engelhardt” Goebel, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 24th, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived 95 full and beautiful years and fought with that same strength until the very end, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and a love that will never fade.
She graduated from Reitz High School in 1949 and always believed in continuing to grow and learn throughout life.
Joyce was a devoted member of St. Pauls United Church Of Christ, German Township, and a proud charter member of the Evansville Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). She poured so much of herself into the organization, serving in many roles including several terms as president. Her dedication did not go unnoticed, earning her Chapter Leader of the Year multiple times, as well as Regional Leader of the Year from 2012–2013. She truly took pride in the work she did and the people she connected with along the way.
She retired in 1996 from Peyronnin Construction Company, Inc. after 40 years of service—a reflection of her strong work ethic and commitment. Even after retiring, she never slowed down. She stayed active, kept learning, and continued to live life in a way that made her happy.
Joyce was truly one of a kind. She had a spunky, spirited personality and a way of bringing light and laughter into every room she walked into. She did things her way, on her own terms, and made sure to enjoy every moment she could. There was never a time you could hold her back from doing what she wanted or making memories that would last a lifetime—for herself and for all of us.
More than anything, Joyce loved her family deeply. In her passing, we lost not only a mother and grandmother, but our GiGi—someone whose love shaped all of us. That love was something you could feel, something that surrounded you whenever you were with her. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Foley (Kelly); her grandchildren, Jamison Foley (Katlyn), Autumn Foley, Jordan Foley (Taylor), and Ashtin Foley; her great-grandchildren, Cooper, James, Hunter, and Jackson Foley; sister-in-law, Sarah Guinn; nieces and nephews; and countless extended family members and friends who were touched by her love and will carry her memory with them always. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Goebel; her brothers, Edwin and Herbert Engelhardt; and her sisters, Mildred Nicholson and Ester Drennan.
Joyce had a strong faith and always believed heaven was waiting for her. There is so much comfort in knowing she is now reunited with the love of her life, her husband of 59 years, Ralph—a beautiful reunion after so many years apart.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported, cared for, and stood by Joyce and her loved ones in her final months. Your kindness, prayers, and presence have meant more than words can express.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 30th from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home – North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd., Evansville, IN. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, officiated by Pastor Terry Farmer, with entombment to follow at Alexander Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church Of Christ, German Township or Riley Children’s Hospital.
Though she leaves behind a space that can never be filled, the love she gave—her stories, her spirit, and her presence—will stay with us forever.
Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderNorthChapel.com.
