Obituary of Joyce Hall
Joyce Hall, age 91 of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019, in Cleveland, Ohio. Joyce was born the eldest daughter to the late Madeline and Vernon Jennings on September 30, 1927. Her siblings are the late Jackie Jennings, the late Ronald Jennings (Judy) and Eloise Jennings (Vince) of Evansville. Joyce graduated from Central High School and worked for Indiana Bell during WWII. Joyce married Gerald V. Hall on November 6, 1946. They were married for 36+ years until Gerry died at age 57 in June 1983. During their marriage, Joyce and Gerry resided in Evansville, Jeff City, MO, Beech Grove, IN and Cleveland, OH, adding four daughters along the way, and finally returning to their hometown of Evansville in 1972. Joyce began her 45 year paralegal career in 1973 with a focus on Probate Law. She worked freelance for many law firms in Evansville throughout the last 4+ decades and was often seen sprinting through the Courts Buildings and Clerks Offices until her 90th year, when health issues dictated a slightly slower pace. She loved helping clients through the financial and legal confusion of wills and estates, and would work till the wee hours of the morning balancing every account to the penny. When she could tear herself away from work, she enjoyed travelling the world (mostly alone) and would set out on adventures to London, China, Europe, Egypt, Canada and of course, any island where the beaches were renowned. She loved to celebrate every birthday in New York City enjoying the latest Broadway hit and Jazz Clubs. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Joyce parasailed for the first time in her 70s, rode jet skis, drove high speed boats and went up mountains on chairlifts and trams in her 80s without the slightest hesitation. She enlisted her daughters in her travels and planned many wonderful mother/daughter trips throughout the years. Joyce had a real passion for throwing surprise birthday parties (we reciprocated) and was the family event planner for any occasion. Joyce was fiercely independent, resourceful and a lifelong student embracing computers, the internet, wifi, smartphones, tablets and streaming as another adventure. She did however, have an aversion to clothes dryers and health food. Coke, Fritos and good Dark Chocolate is the only way to fly! Her other interests included attending any dances in town at Aztar, The Eagles or The Owls, Notre Dame Football, Wimbledon, Golf Tournaments (playing, watching and attending), Gardening, Swimming, Bridge, Jeopardy! and always, Masterpiece Theatre on Sundays. Surviving without Mom/Grandma are her four daughters: Cynthia Cook, Madelyn Hall, Teresa Rocco (Patrick) and Elizabeth Harris (Tim). Six grandchildren: Kelly Kosmala, Tom Klocker (Alison), Jason Socha (Tracy), Sean Socha (Ashley), John Welcome (Nalene) and Taylor Harris (Marie). Eight great grandchildren: Casey, Alix, Owen, Olivia, Luke, Andre, Tylor and Jack. Nieces/Nephews: Pam Beckham, Rick Maddox, Treva Kramer, Ron Jennings, Jr., Debra Endress, Mark Jennings, Vic Jennings, and Andy Jennings. A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, Evansville, Indiana, on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce's memory to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, OH 44119 or online at hospicewr.org.
