Joyce Maxine Simmons, 89, of Evansville, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home Sunday, December 4, 2016. She was born August 29, 1927, in Evansville, to the late Robert and Trilby (Marlowe) Gardner.
She graduated from Bosse High School in 1945, where she was a cheerleader. She married Donald “Don” Simmons in 1945 and the two remained married for 54 years until Don’s passing in 2002. An avid bowler for decades, Joyce earned several awards and patches at local bowling facilities. She also had a passion for reading, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku. Joyce’s main focus was her grown children and she devoted her life to them.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Bob Gardner and Betty Hill.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Cathy) Simmons and twins, Kathy Radgowski and her companion, William, and Dr. Kirk (Cheryl) Simmons; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with dear friends, Norma Cobb and Audrey Boarman.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Sunset Memorial Park. There will be no visitation at Alexander East Chapel. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
