Joyce Van Vorst

Joyce (Utley) Van Vorst of Evansville Indiana went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the age of 87, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on Jan 4, 1937 in Madisonville, KY, to the late Charles Utley and Pauline (Rye) Utley Heerdink and grew up in Evansville, Indiana. Joyce worked briefly at Deaconess Hospital and then devoted herself to providing daycare for her grandchildren and others. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joyce was involved in Church throughout her life, enjoyed singing in the choir and loved gospel music. She loved the Lord, and raised her family in the church, most recently attending Christian Fellowship church since 1995. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years John R. Van Vorst in 2004, as well as her parents and stepfather, William Albert Heerdink. Joyce is survived by her children, Joni Van Vorst Palmer (Ted), Terri Van Vorst Buttram, John C. Van Vorst (Kim), Robin Van Vorst, and Michael Busing II (Angie); grandchildren, Kara Herrmann, Jennifer Buttram Harris (Brenton), Lori Buttram Mohr (Nick), John W. Van Vorst (Sarah), Jeff Van Vorst (Kendrea), Michael Busing III (Hannah), and Hannah Van Vorst; great-grandchildren, Kaden Chang, Emily Chang, Maddy Mohr, Mackenzie Harris, Chevy Busing, Grace Mohr, Logan Van Vorst, Skylar Van Vorst, and Nylah Busing. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Christian Fellowship Church, officiated by Rev. Cliff Herring, with burial to follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel and from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday at church.
