Judith "Judi" Diane Gates

Judith Diane Gates, 81, of Evansville, IN passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Bell Oaks Place Assisted Living. She was born on February 22, 1944, in Bicknell, IN to the late Abraham “Tom” T. and Margaret “Pauline” (White) Shaner.

Judi and her husband Larry met on separate dates, but spent the entire evening dancing together and were inseparable after that. She and Larry enjoyed spending time with each other on their houseboat, both enjoying the simple things in life and they cherished their time spent together.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Larry E. Gates, who passed away on November 5, 2023, and her parents, Abraham and Margaret.

Judi is survived by her daughters, Andrea Reller (Todd) and Laurel Knapp; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Shaner (Fran); sisters, Carolyn Bassemier and Janice Damaske; along with several nieces and nephews.

Judi’s family extends a special thank you to the staff of Gentiva Hospice and Bell Oaks Place for their compassion and excellent care.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, followed by a private service. Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery.
