

Julia was a charter member of the Methodist Temple. As an active member throughout her life, she served on various committees at the church, district, conference and jurisdictional levels. She served multiple terms as president of the United Methodist Women, and was the wedding coordinator for many brides. Julia was active in mission work, participating in work camps within the United States and Belize. She taught Sunday school, was a youth sponsor and cub scout leader. She loved to dance and worked as an Arthur Murray Instructor in her youth. Julia loved to sew, craft, work in her yard and was always ready for a road trip. She especially enjoyed traveling to the Mediterranean and Israel. She worked in retail and at the Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging.
Julia also loved to decorate for every holiday but Christmas was her favorite. Decorating, lighting Advent candles with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as eleven o’clock Christmas Eve service were traditions she fostered in her family who she deeply loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Georgia Mayton, brother Charles Mayton, sister Evelyn Woolley, and grandson Joshua Forney.
She is survived by her children Judith Forney-Hantle (Larry Hantle); Ronald Forney (Susan); Kevin Forney (Rhonda); and Bertrum Forney (Stephanie).
Grandchildren: Kellie Forney; Nathaniel Hantle (Tracie); Robin Whitledge (Jordan); Stuart Forney; Nicholas Hantle (Katie); Jessica Hantle; Samantha Forney; Chelsea Forney (Steven) and Courtney Forney.
Great-Grandchildren: Ben Forney, Felix Forney, Calvin Forney, Julia Whitledge, Elizabeth Hantle, Emily Hantle, Caleb Hantle, and Robert Whitledge.
Julia is also survived by her sister Carol Siegel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Methodist Temple on Sunday, May 23, 2021 during the 8:30 am service. Visitation will be after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
