Keith S. Byrd, 69, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Linda White Hospice. He was born November 1, 1948 in Evansville to the late Samuel and Evelyn (Blankenship) Byrd, Sr.
He was an Air Force veteran serving in Vietnam as an MP. He was a retired Evansville City Police Officer and retired from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. He received the Evansville Police Officer of the Year Award in 1984. He enjoyed coaching softball, spending time with family, traveling, fishing with his grandchildren and boating. He loved watching sports, particularly St. Louis Cardinals baseball, the Indianapolis Colts and IU basketball.
Keith was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Flowers.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Doretha (Malcolm) Byrd; son, Jeff Byrd (fiancé Kelly); daughter, Sundy Curl (Bruce); daughter, Autum Byrd; son, Sam Byrd (Aaron); grandchildren, Tiffany, Kyle, Cameron, Paige and Jordan; great-grandchild, Hadley; sister, Nancy Thorbecke (Jim); brother, Samuel C. Byrd, Jr. (Bert); sister Narene Lindauer (Steven) and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00AM, Monday, October 22, 2018 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road. Friends may visit 2:00 to 7:00PM, Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the funeral home.
