Obituary of Kenneth Floyd Allen
Kenneth Floyd Allen, 96, of Evansville, IN passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville. Kenneth was born September 15, 1922 to his parents Luey G. and Edna (Rausch) Allen. He attended Delaware Grade School and graduated from the Old Central High School of Evansville in 1940. After graduation, he worked at the Sunbean and Servel refrigeration plants. After the Pearl Harbor attack, he joined the Army Air Corp., but worked at the Evansville Chrysler Ordinance Plant until being called to active duty. During WW II he served in the South Pacific on the island of Saipan as a bombardier on a B-29 Superfortress on missions to Japan. After the war he was employed by the National City Bank of Evansville. He then joined the North Side Federal Savings and Loan Association, which later became Home Federal Savings, which merged with Permanent Savings Bank. He retired from Permanent Savings Bank in March 1985 after 39 years in the banking business. On May 21, 1949 he married Katherine Emogene Brown of Evansville, the daughter of Homer and Grace Brown. They have two children, a daughter Brenda J. Allen and son Gary L. Allen. One month before their 50th anniversary, his wife, whom he called Jean, died, leaving a deep void in his life. Among Kenneth’s many hobbies he enjoyed fishing, photography, watercolor painting, playing the mountain dulcimer, traveling out west, riding a motorcycle and flying radio controlled airplanes. His daughter Brenda who lived in Las Vegas Nevada for over 30 years died days before returning to Evansville July 23rd 2010. She was 60 years old. Kenneth is survived by his son Gary L Allen and wife Peggy of Portage, Michigan, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., Evansville IN, officiated by Pastor Ray Deeter, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
