KewBee Irene (McGregor) McDonald passed away peacefully with her granddaughter by her side on June 18, 2026 at the age of 99. She was born in Evansville, IN, June 7, 1927, to Herman and Mabel Mae (Garrett) McGregor.
She attended Baker grade school where she was drum major of the band and “the old” Central High School where she was a majorette and drummer, graduating early in 1945. She remained close to her class and helped plan many reunions and was the guest speaker at the last four.
She loved Central, but with three sons who attended Harrison High School, she eventually became a “Warrior.” She and her late husband, Charlie, helped to start the Harrison Booster Club. They accompanied the Harrison Warrior Band in 1974 to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, LA. Not much went on with her children or grandchildren that they did not attend.
She was a 60+ year Aces basketball season ticket holder. While she enjoyed basketball, she really loved the Chicago Cubs baseball team and attended games every year at Wrigley field with her niece, Diane. One of the highlights of her life was watching their World Series win in 2016 with her grandson, Sean.
She was one of the founders of Tri-State Painting Co., Inc. in 1961 and took over as President in 1992 after the sudden death of her husband. She loved working and continued to work every day until her reluctant partial retirement at the age of 95. The employees were like family to her, and she could talk to them about events past and present.
She was a long time, active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. She served as a greeter and Altar Guild for many years. Her favorite times were the Ladies Hospitality Events and holidays when she was joined by her entire family for service and fellowship.
She is survived by her three sons, Charles Rodney (Paula Haller), Robin (Dana), and Ken (Kim Fichtinger); three grandchildren Natalie West, Penny McDonald-Hauschild (Mark) and Sean (Audrey); five great-grandchildren Blake Miller, Preston, Addison, Emerson and Waylon McDonald; many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews including her special niece, travelling companion and friend, Diane Meier (Marion). She is also survived by her buddy and helper John McKinney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, infant daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, brothers Arthur and Herman “Mac” McGregor and sisters, Anna Lampton and Virginia Minton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Hospitality/Kitchen Fund 2300 Washington Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110 https://donate.shrinerschildrens.org/.
Family would like to thank the staff of The Village at Holiday Health, Heritage Hospice, and Grace Care Services for their incredible care.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, officiated by Pastor Don Gray. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W.
