Lewis E. “Ed” McCoy Sr., 85, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. He was born March 27, 1941, in Neosho, Missouri, and spent his youth in Spring City, Missouri, just outside of Joplin, where he grew up with his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Ed proudly served in the United States Army, where he trained as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During his time in the Army, he traveled to Evansville while on leave and met the love of his life, Jean. Following his honorable discharge in 1963, he moved to Evansville, where he and Jean married. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage and had one son.
Ed was a proud union journeyman millwright and spent more than 40 years working in the trade. He and his wife, Jean, were longtime members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt, Indiana.
Ed was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with friends, including many memorable golf trips over the years. Golf was also something he and Jean enjoyed together. Wherever their travels took them, their golf clubs were rarely left behind, and they often found a course along the way to stop and play.
Ed was a quiet man who enjoyed the company of dear friends and family. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He and Jean were familiar faces in the stands, faithfully cheering them on at nearly every ballgame, event, and activity in which they participated.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William Marion and Naomi McCoy; brothers, Ray McCoy, Bill Anderson, William Marion McCoy Jr., and John McCoy; and sister, Betty McCoy.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma Jean (Seybold) McCoy; son, Lewis (Ed) McCoy Jr. (Julie) of Evansville, Indiana; sisters, Barbara Smith and Nancy Rainey of the Joplin, Missouri area; grandchildren, Kaitlin Clayton (Chris) of North Port, Florida, and Kameron McCoy (Chloe) of Mobile, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Carter Clayton, and Talon, Nash, and Maverick McCoy; step-great-grandchildren, Christopher (Kalli), Jaydan, and Coleby Clayton; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church Darmstadt, 1401 W.
