

Lois Jean Conway Minto, age 90, died in her home in Stevensville, MI on June 19, 2023. She was born on August 14, 1932 to Elmo and Florence Sakel in Huntingburg, IN. She was a 1950 graduate of Huntingburg High School and was a talented pianist and organist. She also played clarinet in the high school band. Beginning in her teens, Lois was the organist for the Huntingburg Methodist Church and shared her musical talents throughout her life.
Lois married Jimmy Conway on August 11, 1956 with whom she had two children, Jane and Brian, and spent 21 years of wedlock. They enjoyed camping in their travel trailer, attending musical events and spending time together as a family. Lois and Jimmy were both talented musicians and taught private music lessons in their home. Jimmy passed away in 1978.
After raising her children as a single mother for 16 years, she married Jerry Minto on July 13, 1994 with whom she shared a life with for 25 years. Jerry and Lois created many memories traveling throughout the US, attending numerous musical & sporting events and Masonic functions. Jerry passed away in 2020.
Lois worked for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for 14 years as a teaching assistant. She was always admired for her patience and kindness towards children as well as being a fabulous mother. In addition to music, another love of Lois's life was dogs, especially Boston Terriers. She had numerous canine companions throughout her youth and adult life.
Lois resided in Evansville, IN for 64 years and was a member of St John's United Church of Christ and Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She was also a long time member of the Hadi Shrine Ladies Auxiliary. For the past 3 years, she resided in Stevensville, MI in order to be closer to family.
Lois is survived by her daughter Jane Conway (Chris), son Brian Conway (Grace), step-daughter Lee Ann Kirby (Paul) and grandchildren Rowan & Eleanor Conway, Daniel, Brandon, & Ryan Kirby, and Drew Minto. She is preceded in death by her parents Elmo & Florence Sakel, husbands Jimmy Conway & Jerry Minto, brother Glen Sakel, sister Rose Kahle and step-son Jeff Minto.
Visitation will be held on July 7, 2023 from 4pm - 7pm at Alexander North Chapel. A funeral service will be held on July 8, 2023 at 11am at Alexander North Chapel, followed by a brief graveside service at Locust Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made to the Vanderburgh Humane Society or Bethlehem UCC of Evansville.
