Lola was first married to John Anderson, with whom she shared 26 years of marriage and raised three daughters, Cecilia, Joni, and Delilah, in Sandwich, Illinois, before his passing. In 1980, she married Cletus Davis, with whom she shared the rest of her life. He survives her.
Lola loved baking sweet treats, and never missed a chance to play a good game of cards with friends. Always the life of the party and a true social butterfly, she lit up every room she walked into and had a way of making everyone she met feel special. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest delight and she never missed an opportunity to spoil them. She had a deep passion for helping others, especially senior citizens, through her work with Fox Valley Older Adult Services in Illinois and SWIRCA here in Evansville. She was always ready to lend a hand before anyone even had to ask.
She brought that same enthusiasm to her church community as an active member of the United Methodist Church. Whether she was out on the ski slopes, exploring the great outdoors, or traveling the world, Lola embraced every adventure. Her energy was contagious, her laughter unforgettable, and her kindness unmatched.
She is survived by her husband, Cletus Davis, daughters Cecilia Brennan and Joni Acton, Grandchildren Paul (Amy) Brennan, Devin (Anna) Brennan, and Tara (Matthew) Gilmore, Tyne Acton. Jason Yingling, Bradley Yingling, and Krista Yingling. Great Grandchildren, Aarvo, Molly, and Willow Brennan, Blake, Cole, Max Brennan and Emma and Sophia Waggoner, Vance and Winnie Gilmore. And many loving, life-long friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Anderson, her daughter Delilah Yingling, her parents, Dolly and George Briggs, sisters Alberta Anderson and Anita Aughtman, brothers Marion Briggs, Colbert Briggs, and Joseph Briggs.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2025 at 11am with visitation starting at 9am at Old North United Methodist Church at 4201 Stringtown Road, Evansville, IN 47711
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Old North United Methodist Church, SWIRCA, Marrs Township Fire Department, Black Township Fire and Rescue, or your local fire department.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who dedicated their time and energy to searching for Lola during the 12 hours she was missing. The overwhelming support and sense of community have been a profound comfort and bright light during an incredibly difficult time.
