Louveta "Lou" A. Moore, 75, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away on October 23, 2026. Born July 31, 1951, Lou will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection for the devoted way she cared for those around her, and for the steady kindness and thoughtfulness she extended to family, friends, and neighbors.
Lou found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of home and family life. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, baking and cooking, and it was a familiar kindness of hers to make plates of treats to deliver to the people she loved. Family remained at the center of her days, and she especially adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lou was known for bringing everyone together, faithfully hosting the big family holiday party each year.
Travel was another pleasure she cherished—particularly family vacations and visiting relatives. Her favorite destinations included the beach, the mountains, and French Lick, where she loved a good slot machine. She also enjoyed watching Nascar and baseball. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed celebrating their World Series win in 2016. She enjoyed spending time at the farm, where she loved driving the old tractor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Lula (Ausenbaugh) McBride and her beloved husband, David Moore.
Lou is survived by her daughter, Tracy Moore; grandchildren, Veronica Hunt (Brian) and Damien Moore (Sara); great grandchildren, Luke, Landon and Emmy Lou Hunt; brother, Rodney McBride (Faye); and uncle, Thomas Ausenbaugh (Laverne). She is also survived by her very close in-laws and several nieces, nephews and cousins around the country.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Pyle, with burial to follow at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Deaconess and the Linda E. White Hospice House for their wonderful care.
