

Lucille (Miller) Werzner, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in Evansville, Indiana following a recent illness and hospitalization. She was born on June 10, 1921 in Evansville and graduated from Reitz High School in 1939.
Lucille retired from Indiana Bell Telephone Company in 1978 after 37 years of professional service. Beginning in Evansville as a long distance telephone operator, she moved into supervisory positions quickly. Eventually she was promoted to Head of Personnel, based in Indianapolis, where she lived for 12 years.
Her musical talent was demonstrated at the early age of 15 when she began playing for services at St. Matthews Evangelical and Reformed Church (which later became St. Matthews United Church of Christ) in Evansville. She served as the Organist and Choir Director at St. Matthews for 50 years in total. While in Indianapolis, she was the Organist and Choir Director serving Carrollton Avenue Church which then became St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.
Lucille was a founding member of the Evansville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, had a lifetime membership in the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Hadi Shrine Honored Ladies and the Evansville Kennel Club. Additionally, she worked as a staff organist for Alexander Funeral Homes and was, at present, a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clarence “Porky” Werzner; parents, Isaac O. and Loraine M. Miller; brother, Orval Miller.
Lucille is survived by sisters, Marilyn Evans (Joe), Billie Jean Northerner of Evansville; Eric Miller (Gail) of Indianapolis; Randall Miller, Ronald Miller (Bobbi), Russell Miller (Kathy), Steven Evans (Theresa), Laurie Evans, Amy Decker (Larry) of Evansville; Nancy Wheeler (Richard) of Orlando; and Dr. Sara Northerner of Louisville.
Services will be 10:30AM, Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Alexander North Chapel with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday, March 7, 2014, from 3:00PM until 7:00PM and Saturday from 9:30AM until service time at the funeral home.
