

Lula “Lu” M. King, of Newburgh, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation. She had celebrated her 94th birthday on Saturday. Lu was born September 29, 1918, to the late Richard J. and Lena M. (Johnson) King in Union Township, where the family owned a farm dating back to the early 1800’s. Lu loved and cherished her family and the farm where she grew up.
She retired in 1979 from St. Mary’s Medical Center where she worked for 29 years. She was the first Director of Volunteer Services and also a Charter Member of Indiana Society of Volunteer Services. She had a Master’s Professional Cosmetologist License and was an Honorary Alumna of Alderson – Broaddus College in West Virginia. She had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1950.
Lu is survived by her sisters, Frances L. King of Evansville and Mildred R. Barber and husband, John, of Burlington, IN; and nieces, Dottye J. Robeson and husband, Carl, and Terri R. Marcellino and husband, Paul, all of Camden, IN.
The family is grateful to Sara King, loyal sitter, VistaCare Hospice and the nurses at Angel River.
Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gene Schroeder, with burial in Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
