Obituary of Magadalaine E. "Betty" Outlaw
Magadalaine E. “Betty” Lander Outlaw 92, of Evansville, IN passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Heart to Heart Hospice. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 5, 1930 to the late Edward and Marjorie Humphrey Lander. Betty was an avid reader and a gourmet cook. In 1984, Betty and her husband, Roy were featured on the company calender for her strawberry dessert recipe. The calendar was circulated throughout the Bristol Myers organization. Betty was a past member of Grand Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, the Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Westside Improvement Association, Lincoln-Clark-Douglas Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the African American Museum, a member of Dove Chapel Full Gospel Baptist Church for many years, under the leadership of Pastor Randall K. Lander, Sr. She later joined Memorial Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Roy; grandparents, William and Mamie Humphrey, John and Matilda Lander; brother, Lawrence Lander. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Edward Lander (Diane); step-daughter, Lanita Compton; granddaughter, Tiffany Wilson; great grandson, Jovan Newsome of Glendale Heights, IL; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Outlaw and Jacqueline Arnold (Darrell); niece and caregiver, Leda Johnson (Terry), and special caregiver, Regina Lander; cousins, Barbara, Lisa, Brittany, and Eric Ducksworth; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery - Heritage Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Drive in Evansville, officiated by Rev. Dr. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr. Entombment will follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Alexander Funeral Home West, 2100 W. Illinois Street in Evansville, and from 10:00 am until service time on Monday at the cemetery chapel.
