Margaret Leona Hassler, 96, of Evansville, IN, passed away on November 23, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born in Evansville, IN on December 30, 1927 to the late Samuel and Matilda (Casper) Cutteridge.
Margaret, or “Marge” as she was known to her many friends, or “Granny” as she was known to the balance of the West Side of Evansville, was a Charter Member of Corpus Christi Church. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary No. 1114 Veterans of Foreign War, St. Bernadette’s Auxiliary No. 280 (formerly St. Rita’s Auxiliary No. 228), and an Auxiliary Member of the Little Sister’s of the Poor. She worked at the Old St. Mary’s Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid and served as a bereavement caller for funeral dinners at Corpus Christi Church.
“Granny” lived her life for the Lord. She not only read His Word, but lived it in its entirety – including her belief that life begins at conception. Her generosity was beyond measure. She tirelessly waited on others, whether she was at work in the hospital, caring for family in a nursing home, or simply visiting with family and friends at home. She met every visitor with a warm smile and an offer of a soft drink and/or snacks. Rarely could you leave without a to-go bag! She loved her “boys” (her grandsons) and their families, especially her great-grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren. She cherished all of her time babysitting and playing games with them.
Margaret is survived by her Grandsons: Scott (Mary) Goedde, Craig (Kelli) Goedde, and Rob (Linda) Goedde, all of Evansville, IN; Great-grandchildren: Samuel Goedde, Maggie Goedde, Taylor (Colton) Motz (Springhill, TN), Zachary Goedde (Louisville, KY), Brooklyn Goedde, Celcia (Jordan) Hagan, Jacob Schorr, Justin (Jordyn) Schorr; and Great-Great-grandchildren: Colton Motz, Jr. and Sophie Schorr; and many other Nieces and Nephews and their families.
Margaret was pre-deceased by her Husband, Robert S. Hassler; her daughter, Mary C. Goedde; her siblings: Samuel Cutteridge, Mary (Don) Noelke, Ben Cutteridge, Charles Cutteridge, Gilbert Cutteridge, William Cutteridge, and Eula (Robert) Moers; and her nephew, John Moers.
The Family wishes to thank the staff at the Wyndmoor, West River Health Campus, and Compassus for their loving touches to a wonderful soul. We also wish to thank the numerous family and friends who visited and reminisced with Granny in her final months. We specifically thank her nieces, Shirley “Sug” Chastain and Joyce Moers, her friend, Marty Horning, and her neighbors, Kevin and Stacy Hatch, for the countless hours and deeds performed to help us throughout these years to take care of her. Our appreciation is beyond measure.
A Catholic Mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, with visitation to take place beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Church. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make donations to Corpus Christi Church.
