

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and volunteered at United Caring Shelter for 12 years. Margaret graduated from Reitz High School in 1940, where she was in the band and a drum major in the Drum and Bugle Corp. She had worked at Shane Uniform Company, National Furniture Company and The Evansville Store. She also worked for the Civil Service during WWII. She loved crocheting, donating many sock hats to cancer patients and to United Caring Shelter, and working in her flower garden.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Smith; parents; sisters, Irma Rubiera and Geneva Frank; and brother, John Weyer.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Johnson of Evansville; granddaughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Armbrust of Louisville, KY; grandson, Derek (Tracy) Masterson of Evansville; great-grandchildren, Trey, Cameron and Lance Masterson; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kylan and Michaela Greene; sister, Shirley M. Kulenkamp of Evansville; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2014, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
