She loved quilting (120 quilts), sewing, reading, gardening, and baking. Marian was a fabulous cook. She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ for 70 years, where she served as president of council, among other leadership positions, including on the Women’s Guild. She was an active member of the Roadrunners Home Ec Club and Coterie Club in Mount Vernon. Marian volunteered at Good Samaritan for nearly 40 years. She was on the Posey County Council, where she filled her husband’s position after he passed, and served on the 4-H Fair Board. In 1986, she was Posey County Homemaker of the Year. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, good neighbor and friend. Marian never met a stranger.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Melvin “Butch” Saalweachter; parents, George and Martha Schroeder; brothers, Raymond Schroeder, David Schroeder, Robert Schroeder; 4 nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Gail (Stephan) Angel, Gary (Ruth) Saalweachter, Joan (Edward) Leof, Glen (Jennifer) Saalweachter, Paul (Tracy) Saalweachter; grandchildren, Jacob (Sandy) Angel, David Angel, Benjamin Angel, Rachel Saalweachter (Marc Bookmeyer), Katherine (Mark) Brent, John (Mary) Saalweachter, Thomas Saalweachter, Caroline (Fred) Kohlhapp, Samuel (Kelsie) Leof, Hannah (Korey) Hineman, Emma (Alec) Bollig, Matthew Joest, Krystle Berry, Makayla Saalweachter; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ervin (Elena) Schroeder, Norman (Sharon) Schroeder, Reuben (Mary) Schroeder; sisters, Ruth Rueger, Mildred Morrison; sisters-in-law, Sharon Schroeder, Brenda Schroeder, Emilie MacNeil; 21 nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastor Janet Buente with burial to follow in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Alexander West Chapel and Monday at 9:30 a.m. until service time.
