

Marjorie Marie (Newman) Murphy, 96, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017, at the Linda White Hospice House, located at Deaconess Midtown Campus, with her daughter, Kathleen, and son-in-law, Shawn, at her side. Marjorie was born Christmas Eve, 1920, to Edgar and Mildred Newman.
She graduated Central High School in 1938. Marjorie was a bookkeeper for Murphy Engineering, Belmont Moving and Storage, and Arkla Industries. She was the morning hostess at the Executive Inn for many years. Marjorie was a private pilot, won many golf tournaments, bowled at the Old Rose Bowl for the Copycats team, and played viola with the Evansville College Orchestra. She was an avid reader, played clabber, and loved to dance. Marjorie attended the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, in her many travels. She enjoyed traveling, watching golf and tennis on TV, flowers, drawing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Moore; sons, Michael E. Murphy and Kerry B. Murphy, both in 2016.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Rick) Watkins, of Evansville, Kathleen (Shawn) Sweat, of Richland, Keven Murphy, of Evansville; grandchildren, Mike Zeller III and Angie, Jessica (Jason) Nuffer, Erin Murphy and fiancé, Michael Merrill; great-grandchildren, Casey Jo (Brian) Bennett, Tyler Zeller, Amanda (Skylar) Fox; great great-grandchildren; Owen Bennett, Parker Bennett, Autumn Bennett, Hayden Fox, Addyson Fox; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 4 PM, Wednesday, December 20, 2017, Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, officiated by Father Joseph Ziliak. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
