

Mark "Cheeko" Kevin Cheek, 54, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Deaconess Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 18, 1960, to Delpha (Sortor) and the late Kenneth Cheek.
He graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1978. During his years there, Mark was the equipment manager for football, basketball and baseball. He was also involved with Young Life. Mark graduated from ISUE, where he earned a degree in Business. He was president of Sigma Tau Gamma Alumni Association where he made lifelong friends and was loved by all. Mark was an active member of the Turning Pointe United Methodist Church where he was very influential in making a positive impact on youth and adults alike. He served as a youth leader at The Turning Pointe for ages K-8 and spent the last several years focusing on the middle school group. He was employed by John Deere Landscapes. Mark was a family man devoted to his wife and sons. He enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball and basketball teams at West Terrace, West Side Christian Church and EJFL. He also loved spending time bowling with Ryan, supporting Kevin in lacrosse, and biking with Paula. He spent hours walking with his faithful, four-legged friend, Rosco. Mark loved spending time with his family and friends. His life was a great example of faith, family and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his father; and his mother-in-law, Judy Meyer.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Paula; sons, Ryan and Kevin; mother, Delpha; sisters, Marlene (Rich) Vanderlin, Nancy Cheek and Twila Burke; brother, Rex (Darlene) Cheek; father-in-law, James “Jim” Meyer; sister-in-law, Elaine (Brad) Gray; brother-in-law, Dave (Laurie) Meyer; 12 nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and nephews; and aunts, Aileen Sortors and Sr. Mary Benet “JoJo” Goodrum, OSB.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2014 at Turning Pointe Church, 9800 Middle Mt. Vernon Road, Evansville, IN 47712, officiated by Rev. Scott Cassel, with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 until 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel, with a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 PM.
