Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Day passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. She was born on March 14, 1948. Beth was the youngest of three children of Thurman and Jane English. She attended Dexter, Harrison and received her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Evansville College.
Beth taught 2nd grade at Harwood and Vogel Elementary where she was loved by all of her students and parents alike. While at Harwood, she met Allen Day, the love of her life. They were married in 1979 and shared 25 wonderful years until Allen’s death in 2005.
Beth and Allen spent every summer and winter break in Vero Beach, Florida. They alternated days at the beach with days on the golf course, sprinkled with time watching LA Dodgers Spring Training and a few cruises.
Following Allen’s passing in 2005, Beth retired from teaching. She continued with some Florida trips with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Allen; and her brother David English.
Beth is survived and will be deeply missed by her sister, Susan Hatfield; nieces, Christina Weaver (Jason) and Jill Hayden (Paul); great-nieces and nephew, Basil Hayden, Ella Weaver, Josie Hayden, and Emery Weaver.
Surviving also are Allen’s children who were as her own, daughter, Susan Cole, son Allen Day (Chery); granddaughter, Becky DeBaillie (Tim); grandson, Jesse Cole (Anna); great-grandson, Henry DeBaillie; and great-granddaughter, Ruby DeBaillie. Allen’s sister Jan Kahle and her husband Larry who were great friends to Beth. All the nieces and nephews were all special to Beth.
Beth was dearly loved and cherished by her family and friends. We will miss her terribly.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Alexander East Chapel. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
