She was born in Evansville, IN, to parents, Albert Buell Utley and Nelia Katherine Utley (Jeffries), on May 25, 1938. She graduated from Benjamin Bosse High School in 1956, attended First Cumberland Presbyterian Church (now Potter’s Wheel), then began working for Mr. DeJong, of DeJong’s department store, in downtown Evansville. Shortly after, she started her 30-year career in the United States Bankruptcy Court and was a Chief Deputy Clerk until her retirement in 1992.
Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved her dog, Buffy Sue. She married her high-school sweetheart, Jim Embry (Jimbry), and upon retirement, she began taking care of Jim, who had to retire unexpectedly at age 54 due to health reasons. She had such a passion for always offering a helping hand to her friends and family, while maintaining high school friendships well into her 80’s. She loved gardening and making special recipes, but it was her infamous homemade chocolate chip cookies that were her most requested bakery item. She always donated to the local animal shelters, as she was a true dog & cat lover. She and her husband traveled to multiple countries while they were both working and always brought back special keepsakes for her family to enjoy. One of her favorite domestic places to travel was to Florida, where she and Jim took the kids on summer vacations every single year until they were grown. She also loved her trips to Las Vegas, where she enjoyed great food (PF Chang’s), great entertainment, such as seeing Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere 10+ times, attending multiple shows, and playing her favorite video poker machines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Darrell Embry, Sr.; sister, Carole Lee Utley; her grandparents; sister-in-law, Joanie Wolverton, and several aunts & uncles.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Darrell Embry, Jr. (Molly), of Orlando, FL; daughter, Vicki Darlene Boedeker (Bob), of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Lauren Kohler (Ryan) of Ft. Myers, FL, Paige Embry, of Ft. Myers, FL, Kaylan Friedman (Patrick) of Winter Springs, FL, Kate Stedman (Adam), of Oviedo, FL and Michael Boedeker (Jade Davis) of Newburgh, IN; great-grandchildren, Jaden Embry, Krew Kohler, Abel Knope, Ruby Knope, and Finn Friedman; two brothers-in-law, Dan Wolverton and Bill Embry; and many nieces and nephews.
