

Mary Jean was born in 1931 in Evansville just a few blocks from the Howell Yards to Jess and Hazel Cobb. Jess was a long-time employee of L&N railroad and retired as the conductor on the famed Dixie Flyer Passenger Train.
Her brother, Richard, born in 1922, was a decorated World War I l veteran who landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France.
Mary Jean started her long career as a graduate of the Deaconess Nursing School. Mary Jean took her first job in Vincennes Indiana working at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mary Jean met her husband, Tom, and married in 1952 in Evansville. Tom was an instrumental music teacher in Decker, Indiana just south of Vincennes.
Sons, Fred and Gordon were born in Vincennes and resided with their parents in Decker.
A new job for Tom in Evansville teaching at Plaza Park, took the young family back to Evansville. Mary Jean took her nursing training back to Deaconess and served several years in the obstetrics department. Daughter Kristi and son Andy were soon to arrive from their new Evansville home.
Tom, later changed careers and left teaching to enter the packaging industry working at Bernardin Inc. and Sunbeam Plastics where he retired.
Mary Jean was a life-long student and started attending the University of Evansville, which was a few doors from the campus from her home on Frederick Street.
Mary Jean earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from the University of Evansville and served many years in the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation at both Cedar Hall and later Stringtown Elementary Schools. Mary Jean loved her students.
Mary Jean is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Lara, Brant, Emily, Breanne (H: Jason Meyer), Kelci (H: Justin Burnham) Lindsey (H: Josh Ambrose), Mackenzie and Lauren; and great grandchildren, Ava Maree, Carter, Hannah, Caroline, Brayden, Callahan, Anderson, Declan, Marie and Ava.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday June 26th at Alexander North Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
