

Mary Alice Wilson (Boyd) McCord, 90, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. She was born November 12, 1920, in Herald Prairie Township-White County, IL, to Gilbert D. and Mary L. (Weasel) Wilson, the 9th of 10 children.
She married Perry R. Boyd in 1939 and he died in 1947. They had one son, James A. Boyd who was stillborn on November 4, 1940.
In 1947 after her husband’s death, she went back to high school and finished her last two years. She then enrolled at Oakland City College in 1949 and graduated in 1953 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. In 1961 she graduated from Indiana State University with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught public school for ten years.
She married Harold McCord on August 9, 1953. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. Their daughter, Amy, was born June 22, 1963 and was adopted by Harold and Mary on July 5, 1963 when she was 13 days old.
She was President of Freedom Association One Day Convention: 1969, 1977 & 1989 and was treasurer from 1975-1993 (18 years).
Mary served as clerk and Assistant Clerk for North Haven Church for 20 years. She joined North Haven Church on January 1, 1956. She taught Sunday school for 45 years plus, sang in the church choir, was a Vacation Bible School Director, Music Director, and was on the Refreshment Committee.
Mary served as president of North Haven Missionary Society from 1967 through 1989 (21 years) and was treasurer from 1978-1989 (11 years).
She is survived by her daughter, Amy P. McCord of Salem, IN; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 5, 2011, at North Haven General Baptist Church, 1720 Haven Drive, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Winslow, IN. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Haven General Baptist Church or Oakland City University.
