

Mel loved splitting his time between his homes in Ft Myers, FL and Barkley Lake. His favorite pastimes were playing cards, fishing, the outdoors and being with his family and friends. Mel belonged to the NCHA (National Campers and Hikers Association) and the Chigger Diggers Association. He enjoyed traveling and cruises with his wife, Jane. Mel retired from George Koch & Sons and was a 70-year member of Local #20 Sheet Metal Workers.
Mel was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jane (Winternheimer) Damm; parents, John and Veronica (Goebel) Damm; and brother, George Damm.
Mel is survived by his daughter, Karen Simon; sons, Kevin Damm (Jacki) and Keith Damm (Amanda); grandchildren, Matthew Julian, Steven Simon (Amanda), Randall Simon, Michael Damm (Kelsey), Nicole Pyle (Ethan), Madison Damm, Tanner Damm, Carly Damm; great-grandchildren, April Simon, Hunter Simon, Addison Martindale, Layla Simon, Avery Simon, Randall Simon, Jr., Maximus Damm and Veronica Pyle; sister, Gladys Ludwig; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Alexander Funeral Home West, 2100 W. Illinois St. in Evansville with Pastor Terry Farmer officiating. Friends may visit from 11:00 am until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Immanuel UCC Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, IN.
