

He was a Vietnam Veteran, a Purple Heart Recipient, and retired from the Army as a SPEC 4. He was also a truck driver for GE, retiring ten years ago. Merle loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them, especially grilling out. He enjoyed going to Kentucky Lake and loved being outdoors. Merle also loved his dogs and walking, he would go to the mall every day to walk.
Merle is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda (Jerls) Shunk; daughter, Melissa (Steven) Rose; son, Brian (Gladys) Shunk; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, conducted by Celebrant Carrie Hatchett. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
