Michele P. "Mickey" Schmitt

Michele P. "Mickey" Schmitt, 78, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026. Born in Huntington Park, California, Mickey was known for her kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who made the people around her feel cared for and valued.

Music was an important part of Mickey’s life from an early age, and she studied music at Chapman University in California. She went on to share that passion with others as a church choir director for many years, first at Central United Methodist Church and later at Bethel United Church of Christ. She was also a talented singer and a founding member of the Evansville Choral Artists, sharing her musical gifts with fellow singers and audiences throughout the ensemble’s years of performance.

Mickey was a woman of remarkable determination. While raising two children as a single mother and working full time in marketing at American General Finance, now OneMain Financial, she earned her business degree from Oakland City University. She balanced work, school, and raising her family, an accomplishment that reflected the perseverance and determination she brought to everything she did. She continued her career at American General Finance until her retirement.

Mickey had a generous spirit and always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She was there for the people in her life, offering support, humor, and a helping hand whenever she could. Her children and grandchildren were an especially important part of her life, and the memories they shared will remain with them always.

Mickey is survived by her children, Jonelle “Jondi” Soper (Jeremy) and Adam Schmitt (Emily); her grandchildren, Kathleen “Katie” Schmitt, Oliver Schmitt, and Henry Schmitt; her sister, Sheron Seward (Jack); and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Giles Leroy Livingston and Patricia (Bailey) Livingston, and her sister, Maureen Saunders-Ybarra.

Mickey leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter, perseverance, generosity, and the many lives she touched along the way. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2026, officiated by Pastor Ben Lovell, at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road in Evansville. Friends and family may visit on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 2:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
