Mildred Cannon of Evansville, Indiana passed away on April 18, 2023 at the age of 100. She was born in 1922 in Posey County, Indiana where she grew up. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and Lockyear Business College prior to beginning her career at Bernardin Bottle Cap Company in 1941. In 1942, she passed the civil service exam and began working for the Department of the Navy in Washington DC. After a year, she returned to Evansville and went back to work for Bernadin, retiring from there in 1984.
Millie will be remembered for her fiery spirit and independent nature. It wasn’t unusual to see her shoveling snow, mowing the lawn or cleaning out the gutters at her home, even in her later years. She made it clear to anyone who offered assistance that she was perfectly capable of doing it herself. She was an extraordinary seamstress who made most of her own clothes and many beautiful hand stitched quilts throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents, George and Ollie Wasson; sisters, Bert Fieber and Sue Vaughn; brothers, Wayne, Elwood and Gene Wasson.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cannon; son, Roger Cannon (Kathy); four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Wasson; and several nieces and nephews.
