He was always a hard worker. Starting out with his father in the home improvement industry, they worked as Tapp’s Aluminum, Tapp Construction and Opie’s Applicator’s for more than 40 years. He had a big heart and was loved by many. His unique sense of humor could put a smile on your face and a mark on your heart. He had a love for sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed many years sponsoring and coaching local youth teams. He was very proud of all “his kids” treating each as if they were his own. He also loved his cat, Vitch, his cigarettes, driving his truck, and “Boogie Ju.”
Opie was preceded in death by his brother, John Tapp.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marty (Wire) Tapp of Evansville; sister, Martha D. (Tapp) Penry of Henderson; son, Billy T. Tapp of Lufkin, TX; son, Opal Jr. and daughter, Marla Sizemore, both of Henderson; son, Layson Tapp and daughter, Lauren Tapp, both of Evansville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Ilyne Tapp of Dayton, OH; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Martha Penry, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
