

Orville Earl Avery, 96, of Evansville, IN passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Bethel Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Evansville, IN on February 16, 1928 to the late Earl and Idella (Baker) Avery.
Orville graduated from Bosse High School in 1946. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country from 1946 to 1953 as an air craft mechanic assistant and also served in the Korean War.
Orville retired from the Evansville Fire Department as a captain after 27 years. Prior to his time with the fire department, he was a home builder and built several homes around the Fairlawn School District in the 1950’s. Orville enjoyed traveling with his wife Dolores in their younger years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dolores Avery; sisters, Jean Keown and Marlen Hickerson; and half-brother, Delbert Haskin.
Orville is survived by his son, Ronald Avery (Debra); grandchildren, Dan Avery, Jason Avery, Reagan Will (Ryan); great-grandson, Alexander Will; brother, Marvin Avery (Millie); and nieces and nephews.
It was Orville’s wish to have a private family service with burial at Park Lawn Cemetery.
